Substrate Technology, Inc.

Substrate Technology, Inc is a family owned company. Bill Jones founded the company in 1990. Bill has been in the flooring business for many years, when in 1990 he decided to become an agent for floor refinishing, and subcontract the work to other companies. Bill started his company in the garage of his home and since has moved the business into larger facilities as his company grew.

He soon discovered that the normal way of removing old adhesives from concrete floors by bead blasting was inefficient and looked for a new way to removing the adhesive. Bill worked on refining a prototype machine that would quickly and efficiently remove the old finishes and prep the floor for it’s new finish. During this time he explored how terrazzo machines could be modified and used on concrete floors. Bill was able to redesign the terrazzo floor machine into the equipment that his company now builds and markets under the Substrate Technology name. With the development of the floor-grinding machine, he also needed to develop a dust collection system. This is the machine that we, at Joliet Technologies, build the control panels for. 

With the system of machines, that Bill has built, they can now refinish a concrete floor in a fraction of the time that it once took. The finish that is applied to the floor is unlike a conventional finish in that as it cures, it becomes harder. Where the old type of finish on a concrete floor looks it’s best the day that the job is done, with the Substrate finish, your floors will look better with time and usage. This combination of technologies makes for a superior floor finish. 

We are a proud supplier to Bill and his family at Substrate Technology, We wish them the best in the future as he moves the company to a new, larger facility this fall. This new facility will allow Bill to improve his service to his clients throughout North and South America. 

Bill told me of a project that his equipment was used on, that he is most proud of. That project was the refurbishment of the decks on the USS Constellation, prior to it being ordered to the Iraq area, for support of our troops during the war.
