Joliet Technologies designed and manufactured 2 custom HMI (Human Machine Interface) Consoles for this project.

Driller’s Console

The Driller’s Console forms the interface between the operator and Drilling Equipment control/status I/O of the PLC system.

The Driller’s Console I/O is connected to one remote rack, located in the console and connected by dual Ethernet Fiber optic cable to one Optical Link MOXA module, also located in the console, which convert the signals for use by the fiber optic cable running to the PLCs. Below is an overview of the signals exchanged between this console and the PLC system.

The console generator shutdown and SCR shutdown are hard-wired to E-Stop control relays. Output contacts of these relays are hard-wired to each generator breaker or SCR breaker to open the breakers (UVR).

Frontier Driller: Mud Pump Console

Mud Pump Console

The Mud Pump Console forms the interface between the operator and Mud Pump control/status I/O of the PLC system. The Mud Pump Console I/O is connected to one remote rack, located in the console and connected by dual Ethernet Fiber Optic cable to MOXA, also located in the console, which convert the signals for use by the fiber optic cable running to the PLC. Below is an overview of the signals exchanged between this console and the PLC system.

One set for each MP motor

The mud pump console is in control of the mud pumps whenever the driller’s console selector switch is in the REMOTE position, mud pump console Normal/Emergency is in the Normal position and the MP_ Power Available lamp on the Mud Pump Console is illuminated. This can only be done if all mud pumps auxiliary devices permissive have been met.

The mud pump console Normal/Emergency switch will operate the mud pumps when in emergency when the driller’s console PLC has failed to communicate with the PLC system. All auxiliary devices permissive have to be met.
