For over 25 years, Avtron has manufactured Heavy, Mill-Duty (HMD)
encoders for drive feedback in severe environments for the
continuous-process industries. Our rugged designs coupled with
robust, sealed electronics will provide many years of trouble
free service when properly installed in their intended
applications.

Continuous-Process industries strive to maintain production
and minimize unscheduled shutdowns. Outages caused by encoder
failures have been a headache to many production and maintenance
managers. Avtron solved this problem with the introduction of
the M285, M485, and M685
SMARTachTM line of HMD
encoders. These units incorporate the latest in sensor
technology with Adaptive Electronics that maintain signal
quality for the life of the sensor and Fault Check circuitry to
warn maintenance personnel of an impending sensor failure long
before a failure occurs. An open collector Alarm output is
available to signal a PLC or alarm panel and let operators know
so maintenance can be scheduled at the next planned outage. Time
spent troubleshooting the cause of an unscheduled outage is also
eliminated. Replaceable sensors are part of the package and take
about one minute to swap out, thus eliminating the time it takes
to swap out the entire encoder.

The newly released Avtron M285 QUADTach is a high performance
modular rotary pulse generator, designed to provide speed
feedback to AC and DC drive control systems.
The M285 QUADTach is available with up to four (4) field
replaceable sensor assemblies, which eliminates the need to gang
together 2 or more encoders to obtain multiple outputs. This
allows the user greater application flexibility and can reduce
downtime by allowing an unused sensor to act as a spare. This
unit is otherwise functionally identical to the M285 SMARTach.
The M285 QUADTach line driver outputs can be had with 240,
256, 300, 480, 512, 600, 960, 1024, or 1200 pulses per
revolution with various connector options such as the MS Style,
Industrial Style, and Right Angle Style Connectors with mating
plugs.
Sensors are available with 5vDC, 12-15vDC, or 24vDC line
drivers.

on the SMARTach product line. This new product feature provides
a visual confirmation of proper Encoder operation without having
to interrupt the process. One look tells it all. |

in 1984. The reliable modular design has made it one of our most
popular models. The M193B can be used in applications that

The M585 SHAFTach (TM) is the
original shaft mounted pulse generator developed by Avtron in
1990. Since then, it has been used in hundreds of applications
where mounting problems prevented the use of conventional
designs. The M585 eliminated the need for adapter flanges and
couplings that are expensive and can contribute to mechanical
problems, especially on larger motors.

The Avtron Model M785 pulse generator is a zero-speed rotary
transducer, allowing operation down to zero RPM. The M785
generates a specific number of pulses for each rotation of its
shaft. When coupled to a machine, its output is directly
proportional to process travel (pulse count) or speed (pulse
rate). |

The M727A zero-speed rotary encoder is made for heavy mill-duty
environments. This unit can either be NEMA 56C foot or face mounted with
single or dual outputs for AC and DC drive control, speed feedback, or
instrumentation systems. The M727A can also be purchased with a second
shaft extension for multiple machine hook-ups.
Capable of withstanding wide temperature ranges, the M727A is
available with a single phase 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240, or 360 pulses
per revolution with MS Style connectors and mating plugs for each
output. The M727A is totally enclosed in a rugged and sealed cast
housing.

The M737A is a zero-speed rotary encoder. This unit can either be
NEMA 56C foot or face mounted with single or dual outputs on AC and DC

with a second shaft extension for multiple machine hook-ups. The M737A
is totally enclosed in a rugged and sealed cast aluminum housing, which
is capable of withstanding harsh and wet industrial environments.
This unit is equipped with a two phase 240 pulses per revolution and
has either an MS connector or conduit connection for each output. The
outputs are short circuit protected to common.

The M738 is a zero-speed rotary encoder. This unit can either be foot
or face mounted with single or dual outputs for AC and DC drive control,
speed feedback, or instrumentation systems. The M738 can be provided
with a second shaft extension for multiple machine hook-ups. The M738 is
totally enclosed in a rugged and sealed cast aluminum housing, capable
of withstanding harsh and wet industrial conditions.
This unit is equipped with quadrature 240 pulse per revolution. The
M738 connections can be MS Style, Terminal Block Style, or ¾"
Conduit. Outputs are short circuit protected to common. It can be wired
for single ended or differential applications without modifications.
